Kenneth Olsen New Jersey's profile

Early American History at the Jacobus Vanderveer House

A distinguished attorney, Kenneth Olsen recently served as global associate general counsel in regulatory law for the Olympus Corporation in New Jersey. Alongside his career, Kenneth Olsen has contributed to numerous local organizations, including serving as trustee for the Jacobus Vanderveer House and Museum in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Preserved for its historical significance in the Revolutionary War, the Jacobus Vanderveer House served as the headquarters for General Henry Knox in the winter of 1778-1779. The nation's first military academy, the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment, also later made use of the residence.

Today, the Jacobus Vanderveer House and museum invites visitors to learn about this history and to gain insight into life in the 18th century. The museum particularly highlights the role of the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment in winning the victory over the British and the lives of individuals in the Knox and Vanderveer families.

Throughout the year, the museum also features a variety of special seasonal events. Each winter, it hosts an Annual Colonial Christmas beginning with a tree lighting ceremony and followed by weeks of celebrations that feature historical re-enactors. The 2019 lighting of the Christmas tree will take place on Friday, November 29, at 7:00 p.m.
