Caribbean Island of Anguilla Fully Recovered

Loretta Itri, MD, is an experienced pharmaceutical industry executive based in New Jersey. When she’s not managing regulatory affairs and research and development for The Medicines Company, Loretta Itri, MD, enjoys traveling to destinations like the Caribbean island of Anguilla.

Among the Caribbean islands recovering after the devastation left by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Anguilla has been a true success story. After almost 90 percent of its government buildings and electrical infrastructure was significantly damaged in the 2017 storms, Anguilla’s tourism board reported that all of its resorts have reopened after undergoing lengthy renovations.

In addition to restoring the island’s tourism capacity to 1,600 guest rooms, the reopened resorts have added new features to attract guests. One of Anguilla's most iconic resorts, CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa, reopened its doors with a new spa concept as well as a new 5,000-square-foot meeting and ballroom space.

Another popular destination, the Malliouhana resort, reopened in December 2018 and will debut 11 new beachfront suites and a new spa with six treatment rooms in early 2019. The fully restored Belmond Cap Juluca resort features a new oceanfront spa villa and several restaurants overseen by a new executive chef, Andrew Gaskin. Whether tourists have visited Anguilla before or are seeing it for the first time, they will be amazed by how well the beautiful island has recovered from the hurricanes.
