Experiments on the Dobby Loom

What you see here are attempts at using different materials with contrasting properties to develop woven samples in compound weaves which have some form in them and are not flat.
The sample that one sees below is a double cloth woven using wool, cotton (regular and high twist), linen and polyester. The dimension in the fabric was achieved by treating it with hot water.
This sample is an example of extra warp woven using wool, cotton and lycra. The image above shows the face of the fabric and the ones below show the back of the fabric before (colour) and after (black and white) treating with hot water.
This sample didn't turn out to be the way I thought it would. It is basically a double weave with dry flowers woven into cotton at the face and lycra woven into wool at the back. I thought the lycra would shrink enough to give the fabric a curved structure but I didn't realise that the flower stems were quite stiff. Anyway, a failed experiment is still an experiment!
