"Boundaries can be thought of as thresholds containing space, circulation and possibly program."

Thinking about programmatic and spatial distinctions in terms of light, space, orientation and aperture, this project creates a pair of connected studios for a sculptor and a photographer. Initial models and sketches were developed from sections and aimed to create two distinct studio spaces with a continuous circulation and consideration of the different interactions. The space for the photographer is more segmented. Multiple corners, levels and wall heights allows for open and enclosed spaces with direct light, diffused light and darkness. The space for the sculptor is more open, has access to light throughout the day and has high ceilings. The center space can be occupied by the photographer and the sculptor with the gallery directly above it.The total footprint is 30’ x 30’.
