Three-Dimensional of Geometric Abstraction - Character.

Three-Dimensional Geometric Abstraction: Character Design.
Description:
This project is an introduction to three-dimensional abstraction and woodworking whereby the designer is challenged to create a character of unique design using geometric circles, triangles and squares. The project is enhanced by assemblage with the use of hardware fasteners to emphasize facial characteristics and other features.
Process.
We were assigned with making 8 different types of characters only using geometric shapes which made things challenging because of the limited things you could do with geometric shapes like circles, squares, and triangles.
.
We narrowed the characters down to two and made 3 variations from each of the characters. This allowed us to get more creative and also struggle, forcing us to play with shape and see them differently.

Final.
The final model was changed and altered from the original design because I decided to play around with is more. This caused the measurements to be useless but that doesn't mean it wasn't helpful in other aspects of the project. It helped me understand the importance of the shapes and what body parts had to look like. I kept shape language in the model as much as I could keeping the rectangles for the legs and arms consistent and the eyes and head being rounded. As long as the hat. The hat was a decision I made later after the model and made it removable so if it didn't work it was an easy fix. The arms, legs, and hair of the model are all movable.
