Personal Project Pink and the alter pink

Το ροζ και το άλλο ροζ
(Pink and the alter pink)
This is my thesis project based on a research about color pink and the stereotypes around it. It's separated in two printed editions. One for the stereotypes around pink and their extension and one for their reversal.Through a long research I did, I found out that because of the variety and diversity of my search results, my design options should emerge from something more general. So, I wanted to capture in these two printed versions the three main elements: pink, stereotypes-extension and reversal. Pink has a dominant position allover the project as both albums are pink inside out. In my attempt to refer to the meaning of stereotype,in the first edition, the set up is classic and expected, like stereotypes in society where we live in. In the second edition, trying to attribute the concept of overturning, I designed the whole book reversed, which means that you open from the right side and not the left like most of the books, at least in Europe. The set up is unusual and extreme referring to the reversal.
One thing that these editions have in common, obviously, is pink. The findings of my research made me lend up to the conclusion that one color even though is unambiguous for most of us, may be accompanied by very different uses, meanings, symbols and applications, which ends up being unambiguous only for its shade. In this way, two editions have different content but their appearance remains the same. If only, someone looked deeper would see the difference.

As for the smaller, white one, it's the study book, which contains the references i used and my research. I designed it as simple as i could, white with small pink details. It shouldn't look like the two albums, so i chose to use small pink illustrations and not photographs as in the main books. Finally, in setting up this book I kept a simple- minimal line, again aiming at difference with the other two books which are quite rich in information and material, but I kept the "pinky" mood that this project has in general!
Both editions have uncut pages, which are perforated, that you have to rip them to reveal their content. This move hides three meanings. The interaction between the reader and the book, reader's curiosity about the book's content and a symbolic one , a metaphorical connection of the tear of the uncut pages to the annulment of a stereotype each time.
The content of the editions was collected by my research and is used with the reference of the artists and the owners of the visual staff. Some of them were edited by me but the set up and design of the whole books is mine.
