Mahou Shoujo (trans: Magical Girl) is a collection that translates the popular subgenre of Japanese anime & manga into wearable garments that reflect the youthful, feminine and fighting spirit that is essential to a magical girl.
The collection utilises exaggerated lengths and close-fitting garments to create a balanced silhouette. The 'magical' aspect of a magical girl is rendered through the use of astrological motifs and graphics, various sheer fabrics and holographic textiles. Clean lines and minimal details make the garments trendy and modern.
Repeat prints are a key element in the Mahou Shoujo collection. The designs draw inspiration from the popular 90s anime Sailor Moon, school girl uniforms and punkish fishnets.
Textiles also play a crucial role in the collection, notably the usage of two key pink shades in varying degrees of sheerness - the darker pink shade is also used as a gradient and pairs well with a print overlay. Pink crystal organza and lurex fabrics add to the overall cohesion while remaining distinguishable. In addition, the inclusion of holographic fabrics, or in some cases holographic print, keeps the collection fresh.
