Worldly Issues Project
For one of our projects on my MA course we had to look at an issue in the world currently that we can transform into a graphic to create an awareness of it. Being a lover of nature one of the most important issues with the world currently is the treatment of Bees. Their decline is directly linked to us as humans as we harm them with pesticides and the negative connotations that come along with bees because they pack a sting.
Over the last 10 years there has been a 30-40% reporting of annual hive losses caused by habitat destruction, pesticides and climate change.

Bees are so important to our ecosystem, 90% of the worlds plants require insect pollination, a colony of bees could visit 250 million flowers a day.
The idea for this design came to me one night, watching a programme about disabled people not having a voice, I thought it would be powerful to give Bees a voice, using the power of a hive mind, the horror and chaos you would feel if you could hear each and every single bee in a colony which is standard to have 25,000 bees all screaming "SAVE US". I feel like if you ever heard that you would be compelled to do something about it.
I used the letters in "Save Us" to make a faint base where the letters are mixed up and jumbled around, and the layer on top is bolder more demanding and in word order. With the different shapes of letters and mixes I thought it came across as a kind of whispering or buzzing (pun intended) which would slowly get into your head.
It's simple, but I think its effective.
