Cars that Fly   #2

Havana  Cuba  2019
Photographs that feature the colourful chrome creations of American automobiles of the 1950’s, with dramatic fins and elaborate hood ornaments, depict jets, rockets, soaring birds and winged vehicles — and reflect a fascination with space, speed, freedom and the American Dream of flying to the Moon.

Through the car culture of Cuba, these photos capture a stalling of time, due to the harsh reality of continued forced isolationism of this country.  If necessity is the mother of invention, then ironically isolationism has created the Havana car culture, a living example and a notable time capsule, that portrays the positive spirit that made America “Great”.

Sculptured shining chrome, streaking across hot Latin contemporary colours, painted on glossy reflecting metals, embodies dreams of jets and space travel. The cars of the 50's, when people and cars just…. Wanted to Fly.
