Howling Coyote Gravel Race Identity Design

Howling Coyote Identity
Howling Coyote is an individual gravel cycling race, in a series by Substance Projects and Cannondale Bicycles. The entire gravel series, branded as Stuporcross, consists multiple races throughout the season: El Bandito, Eager Beaver and the Howling Coyote. Each race has varying lengths (20 km, 40 km, 80 km & 100 km) which appeal to all levels of athletes. The debut Howling Coyote was held October 21, 2018, in Mono, Ontario.

The other races in the gravel series; El Bandito and Eager Beaver utilize animal characters for their logos. El Bandito race is represented by a raccoon and naturally a beaver for the Eager Beaver. Given full creative freedom and flexibility, I created a design that modernizes the animal theme while still maintaining the wild spirt of the series. Composed of a simplified and geometric coyote howling at the moon, represented by the Cannondale C headtube logo. A single colour logo design was intentional for different print applications such as screen printing and embroidery for event swag. The logo was also used on other event marketing such as a promotional poster, postcard, social media images, race number plate and podium backdrop. #howlingcoyote
