Scenic Work For Great River Shakespeare Festival

During the Summer of 2012 I worked for the Great River Shakespeare Festival (GRSF) as a scenic carpenter. This page contains some process pictures of some of the bigger projects I worked on in my time there.
As a scenic carpenter for the Great River Shakespeare Festival, the majority of my work consisted of  construction of basic units fuch as flats and platforms.
A few pictures of some detailed carvings I did to create a flat that would eventually be painted and flown as a background landscape piece.
I also spent a significant ammount of time working with Mary Montgomery (the Paint Charge for the Great River Shakespeare Festival). This is a picture of OSB that we roughly broke in half and treated with various wood stains to look burnt.
These "wood beams" were eventually assembled to create a "fire damaged" wall.
A closeup of the broken edge.

Painting Experience
The following is a collection of process pictures of the painting of what would eventually become a flown "grid-like" wooden wall.
Te basic construction of the units was a steel frame faced with OSB and white foam board.
To begin we started with a base coat of slightly watered down elastomeric coating.
Next, we covered the foam with a layer of elastomeric coating and used a squeegee to create thick lines in the coating.
After the elastomeric was dry we painted over with a coat of brown paint.
And now a second coat of brown paint.
And Finally we added a thin coat of a very dark purple paint to fill in the "grain" of the wood.
