The three stages I wanted to represent was the moment before, contact, and the pain right after. It was challenging trying to represent the tingly feeling you get when you hit your elbow. It starts out with this swirly vibration and jumps straight into a painful jitter.
Deciding on a color scheme was a difficult process because I didn't know which colors represented the process best. It wasn't until I was looking at the variations aligned next to each other that I became inspired to incorporate all into my animation.
