Anubis was my personal test project, since I create plush dolls under "Anubis Studios". I wanted to create a piece that could be used as my mascot and the image of my brand.
I had several variations of sketches and drawings, ranging on a graph from the most faithful interpretations to ancient Egyptian art to ones that strayed far beyond what is expected. I ended up using the drawing in the center as my basis for the plush pattern.
Embroidery tests for the eyes. I used metallic gold thread to highlight the eyes, since they were an important aspect of the overall design.
I also used metallic gold thread on the paws. My logo contains a dog paw, so this was a nudge to my overall branding as well.
After making the initial head and body shape, I decided to switch Anubis from sitting on all fours to sitting upright, so he would be a little bit more humanized.
