Confession- Inspired Costume Design

Faith in the Christian saints rose to a frenzy during the time of the pilgrimage church. The bodies of saints were torn bone from bone to bring glory to new grandiose houses of worship.
Will a martyr ever be at peace?
Is prayer unseen, untold? or, is it gold?
“Confession” is a campaign designed to intertwine the mysteries of life and death. It is a Memento Mori in its purest and most galvanizing form.
The inspiration for “Confession” came primarily from photographs of Christian Saints found in European catacombs. These holy figures were bejewled, quite literally, from skull to sternum, from fossae to fingertip.
I drew from the Italian Renaissance and the Tudor era for garment inspiration in regards to cut and color. The silhouette, however, is not restrictive as it was in those eras- The lack of stiff sleeves or corsets is reminiscent of the Aesthetic movement made popular by Oscar Wilde. The subtraction of structure from these heavy velvet and brocade gowns achieves the desired look- somber and tranquil, flowing and formless.

“Confession” features decadent eveningwear and eclectic jewelry. The primary focus of the collection is to reinforce a luxury brand and to sell accompanying jewelry and fragrances. The target customer appreciates luxury styling and is fed up with normalcy. They are looking for a dress for an auspicious occasion or a piece of statement jewelry, and they’ve got the confidence to pull this collection off.
