This piece was a response to my first interview in a series of interviews I am conducting with women who also live with chronic illness. It was deeply cathartic for both of us. There are many intricate ways living with chronic illnesses impact your life that are universal to people who have them. In this series I’m trying to talk about those things and how each person processes and combats them in a way unique to themselves. I want to give people the opportunity to give voice to this lattice work of struggle, to be understood and use that understanding as a vehicle to help others understand. I pulled together imagery from the interview to created a portrait in a space of magical realism that celebrates Sarah’s individual courage.
