Humayun's Tomb, New Delhi, India
Humayun's tomb is the tomb of the Mughal emperor Humayun. It was built on the initiative of his widow, Hamida Banu Begum, who constructed a mausoleum for her deceased husband in 1565, nine years after his death. The building was finished in 1572. The tomb's architecture is strongly influenced by Persian architecture. The tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. It created a precedent for future Mughal architecture of royal mausolea, which reached its zenith with the Taj Mahal at Agra.
