Shock collars aren’t appropriate for all dogs. You should check with your vet if you have a dog under 10 pounds in order to ensure that the collar is safe for them. If not, then ask them about alternative methods, such as positive reinforcement, or speak with an animal psychologist to find out ways to desensitize your dog to the things that trigger their barking.

Territorial. When a dog sees the mailman or hears the doorbell ring, they usually bark to warn them off. In their minds, the barking is the reason that the mailman or person went away, therefore they think that barking=protection of territory. This may cause them to bark even long after the threat is gone.

Hunters. To teach their dog not to bark during the most crucial parts of the hunt.
