The Colorado Project | Colorado, USA

This is a long term, ongoing project.

Since moving to the Greater Boulder area in June, I've spent most of my spare time out in the mountains taking photos of just about anything I could find. These adventures have ranged from backroads in the mountains to Rocky Mountain National Park and have only covered a very small portion of the Colorado Front Range.

Here's just a few.
The first two photos were taken on the same day near Gunbarrel, Colorado. It was an absolutely perfectly clear morning for sunrise, as there was minimal cloud cover on peaks and the colors were superb. Photo #2 can't help but remind me of a scene in a Wes Anderson movie and has quickly become a personal favorite.
The photo below is one of my favorites to date. It speaks for itself.
Smoke from the California wildfires were very present in Colorado for most of the summer of 2018. These photos do no justice to how much smoke was actually in the area. Visibility was minimal even on a very windy day and this was as about as clear as it got on that day.
This man was with a tourist group and I just couldn't help making him the subject of a few photos as he snapped away. The second photo is another from Rocky Mountain National Park, not too far from the man's location and the photos above.
This location is only 9 miles from my residence and I went out in hopes of seeing Mount Meeker (out of the frame) peak out over the foothills. While it was a very cloudy day in the higher altitudes, I was never able to locate the exact location of the peaks and instead turned my attention the opposite direction where I snapped this frame.
The photo below was taken during an early morning outing to Rocky Mountain National Park. I arrived well before the sun rose above the horizon and managed to capture this frame right as the sun peaked at roughly 11,000 feet along Trail Ridge Road.
I couldn't tell you the name of this peak to save my life. It was such a beautiful morning on Trail Ridge Road in early October. While the road was scheduled to stay open several more weeks, a large snowstorm three days later closed the road for the season, leaving this as the last clear sunrise on the road for the season.
A quick outing in Rocky Mountain National park during September 2018. These photos were taken around the Dream Lake area on a very cloudy day. While the sun was absent for the entire hike, wildlife were of no shortage.
Mount Meeker (left) and Longs Peak (right) are roughly 28 miles from my location and main characters in my most recent work. As of late, it's been a rare feat to see the skies clear of snow and available for clear shots like this.
