Here are a few of my furniture pieces from SCAD. The table is a traditional single-drawer Shaker build with mortis and tenon joints. The drawer and body are constructed of American poplar. The table top is made from an American walnut. The lamp was a single block of American cherry that was turned (lathe) in a mid-century style. Each were finished in a hand rubbed lacquer but the drawer face was pre-stained and sanded to achieve a contrasting patina. 

Below is the table in use today. It's my favorite place to have morning coffee, write songs and read letters. The drawer still slides with the help of bees wax.
