For History of Graphic Design studio, each student was given a pivotal event, object, or designer in graphic design history to research and discuss. I was assigned Wendingen Magazine, a Dutch magazine that ran from 1918-1932. After writing an essay examining the importance of the magazine (found here), I strived to convey the ideas Wendingen magazine sought to communicate through my poster. I created my own design based on the decorative, architectural type designed by H. D. Wijdeveld, the creator of the publication. It plays with the idea of Wendingen’s deviation from the norm of legibility and easy-to-read publications by exaggerating the forms of each letter to an almost confusing scale.
