STUDIO PROJECT
FOR THE COURSE ARCH303
2ND YEAR OF ARCHITECTURE UNDERGRADUATE - 2018

The site given consists of a piece of the Rutherford park and its steep slope going down until the arts building of the McGill campus. This slope gave a rather interesting feature to the topography. One of the location I have suggested for the intervention connected to the slope more than the others and I chose to continue with this one. The more I worked on it, the more the intervention started to take shape of the topography's curve and interacting with it.
One of the main concepts of the the intervention was the connection that it would bring from the lower campus to the park, which has the school's soccer field. There is the Doctor-Penfield Avenue that pedestrians can cross, but this would provide a newer and safer option for student to circulate through an underground path without disturbing the traffic. The nature of the park and its field are also the inspiration of program the intervention becoming sportive.
The intervention plays mostly on transparency. As it is shown in the vignette, the use of glass in some parts is made in the purpose of providing lightness to an already heavy building. the idea that people can look through the building to see the other side, makes it seem discontinuous and takes away of its density.
