SR Heavy Outdoor - large heavy duty door (2015)

By tightening up standard EN13241-1, the current door could no longer be placed against an outside wall. Because of this I had to develop a door as quickly as possible which was wind class 2, so that our product range was complete again. In order to speed up the development process, I tried to rely as much as possible on existing and familiar techniques. This became a challenge when it turned out that new safety technology (light curtain) had to be applied too, to make the door future-proof.
To make the door more wind-resistant, we use wheels that ensure that the door leaf can not blow out of the columns. A light curtain was added to be at the forefront of market trends.
The new door consists of more pre-assembled parts so that installing it goes faster.
Some research and development went into the wheels and how to connect these to the door leaf.
And some research and development went into the strength of the new column.
Both wheels as column have to pass the wind load testing (NEN EN 12444) and of course function safe in practice.
The challenge was to have the current tensioning system (to save development time) function in the new column, with the wheels and light curtain integrated.
