Personally, the act of smoking conveys the notion of “refreshing mood” and “being open-minded”. I wanted to design a bar chair in a way that express such a notion when a person is sitting on it.
The posture that a smoker takes is inevitably asymmetrical. In my work, I attempted to highlight this attractive, characteristic asymmetry that conveys the open-minded feeling. Additionally, I designed an armrest, which is convenient for smokers to lay their elbow.

The chair was designed to include the armrest, but in a way that does not trap the sitter. While emphasizing asymmetricality, it was designed to provide comfort for both left-handed and right-handed people.

Although the chair was initially to be made of pipes and metal plate, structural problems were anticipated during the scale model construction. In order to solve this problem, many different types of structure were tested.
