Architectural Computation-Tangent Plane Structure

  • This large scale structure is an experimental work that aimes to push boundries of Art and Architecture in relationship with digital fabrication and programming. The project is the result of a tangent plane discretization technique. The curved surface is divided into flat panels through establishing tangents between areas of curvature. In that way, the curvature of the surface is absorbed and localized in small openings . The openings then turn into truncated pyramids to create a self supporting structure. Special emphasis on light and transparency pushed the work to become not only a solid mass but also a lightstructure to be used as a lamp. Bristol, Vellum, 3D Printing, and Acryllic are the materials used in this work.
