Steel pipe and perforated mesh chair
The task was to design a chair for a terrace in Dłużew, where Academy of the Fine Arts in Warsaw has a summer house for students. We analyzed the problem and found two basic functions of the summer house:
– relax by yourself during the day
– party with people during the night.
Other limitations:
– it had to be made out of metal
– have a size appropriate for a coffeeshop table.
Inspired by chairs from 18th century France, such as voyeuse, chair designed specifically for observing a game of card, we wanted our chair to be designed not only for the person sitting on it, but also for people around it.
The three-legged form of the chair doesn’t dictate which way you should be sitting on it, the circular seat and backrest encourage turning around while sitting.
