I worked with Instrument to help develop/design a simple tool for music discovery powered by the densely populated Rdio online music subscription service.
Rdio needed a low level, quick and efficient mobile experience/platform that would allow users to customize and currate for different levels of listeners - from the casual to the serious music collector. It also needed to reflect the elegant design of the browser experience, with very minimal effort, all while utilizing the user's history, preferences and data. We also wanted to introduce new ways of exploring through, personalized stations, currated sharable content, heavy rotation mode, followers, and a fun and surprising blend mode, which added a level of surprise to the experience.
Editing a station is simple, tapping and or dragging to each of the three inputs allows users to curate quickly.

Some alternative screens - this exploration included a deeper level discovery and blend mode. Users could discover new playlist by blending two favorite tracks or artists and save to the specific station on their personal rdio station.
Alternative dial / station mode. Curation can be dialed in by tapping the amount of random artist/tracks at the bottom - opening and closing the floodgates. So the larger the "tube" the more expansive the discovery.
Spectrum or Discovery mode allows users to touch and reveal tracks or artist, add to station or play - or blend tracks to create playlist and or new stations!
Iterations, User Flow, UX, Feedback
Sketches and user flow, quick favorite tracks and the ability to create playlists from touch within the color spectrum - discovery becomes playful and random. User could control the level of randomness by opening and closing the floodgates within the station mode.
