Zomick's Challah with Sesame

The Pan Challah, besides being a delicious bread, has a special meaning for the Jews, and although it is very similar to a European brioche, it does not contain milk or butter because, because of the kashrut, you cannot mix products dairy with meat in the same food.

Apologizing in advance if there is something wrong about the history of bread, and willing to learn if someone has another story that you want to share, I will try to briefly explain a little the history and meaning of this bread.

The challah, is the bread that is eaten on the Sabbath and other festivities, while the Lechem is the daily bread. In the Jewish New Year, this bread is prepared in a circular way, symbolizing the desire for long life. The braid is made because the Talmud says that the knots made with 3 fibers are indestructible.

The poppy seeds symbolize the manna eaten by the Israelites during the 40-year exodus through the desert on their way out of Egypt and consequent liberation from slavery.
