Still Life Painting
Still Life of Treasures, November 2018, Acrylic
My reference picture was a still life set up of some objects that hold significance to me. In the clear box, I have a note from a dear friend, a friendship bracelet, a polaroid of my dog, my favorite star earrings, and a rollerball perfume gifted to me for my 18th birthday.
Reflection
In the painting, I decided to enhance the colors in the objects and bring out their colors in relation to the gray background. My color palette is mostly gray, gold, red and blue, and I employed a technique of using mostly shapes of shades of those colors instead of excessive blending. The most difficult aspect of this piece was choosing the right colors to represent the subtle gradients and various hues represented in the set up. The clear box was also difficult to convey, but showing the highlights and shadows along the edges and slight distortions through the glass helped to show the transparent materials.
