Illustration: Aesop Fable

A passion project inspired by my childhood
Being a third-culture child is an integral part of my identity. My person is the sum of so many different communities, and this mixed-media piece is dedicated to all of them.
The illustrations that form the basis of the work (the two birds) were sketched on paper and vectorized in Illustrator, and are drawn in the traditional Mehendi style of Indian artisans. The text is from one of my favourite fables by Aesop, one that I grew up hearing from my grandma and reading in book format. The grunge styling is an ode to David Carson's work.

The biggest challenge of this piece was employing a careful balance between readability and the grunge elements, as my vision was to build a leaf of a children's illustrated book on Aesop's fables.
