Type Tribute
Explore the identity, history and value of typefaces through designing a 12 inch vinyl LP package and a coordinated casette package. Working in a group of four, we came up with the band name El Moomen. The genre of music is a theatrical Spanish music. I extracted the E from El Moomen and started experimenting with different typographic weight and techniques e.g. cut outs and scanning. As the final outcome, I recreated an eye test using screen printing from the first alphabet from our band name. When you sit in the front row, you could see the performance clearer and when sit at the back row you can only see tiny actors or actresses on the stage. (I intended to create a performance for...) During my research process in the project, I have decided to use a shiny reflective paper stock as my medium ,so that when the audience look straight into my LP cover they can actually see a shallow reflection of themselves. A theatre performance is always not the same without the audience / crowd. The 'mirror' shows the viewer is a part of the performance. The lighting of the room affects the visual of the LP and casette packaging.
