Celebrities Boycotting the Super Bowl 2019 in Support of Colin Kaepernick
Colin Kaepernick the former 49ers quarterback, who has been very popular in a controversy following his kneeling down during the national anthem. The player did so to protest against the brutality displayed by the police towards African-American Men. He had put his career at stake for this and had to suffer a lot. But I guess it does not matter as long as it’s for a good cause.

However, recently there has surfaced some incidents that points to this protest in support. Las week there has been a news that reported Rihanna turning down from performing in Super Bowl 2019. It was also mentioned in the report that she has done this in protest against NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick after he kneeled down during national anthem.

After a little a while to this news another one of the celebrities namely Amy Schumer the comedian shared her views in an Instagram post proclaiming she will not hence off appear in any of the Super Bowl commercials. She has appeared in a Bud Light Super Bowl commercial back in 2016 alongside Seth Rogen.

The cause for this was obvious in the post she wrote:

“Hitting the NFL with the advertisers is the only way to really hurt them. I know opposing the NFL is like opposing the NRA. Very tough, but don’t you want to be proud of how you’re living?”

She has been surrounded by some controversies of her own back in 2015. She told a racist joke and then was sorry afterwards and promised to take responsibilities for her words in the future. We think that this boycott is a sign she is learning to accept everyone no matter what color of the skin they have.

Amy Schumer and Rihanna’s support have given a rise to Kaepernick political involvements after two long years of his protest. Many of other celebrities have also involved themselves in this political matter including Diddy, Kathy Griffin, Anika Noni Rose, and Jameela Jamil etc.

An assistant professor of management at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Stephanie Creary, report that the reason for the Kaepernick’s protest been largely misunderstood. She said that the critics have misjudged his kneeling down as disrespect to the flag and the national anthem totally pulling off the real agenda. Supporters who have a great influence can help greatly to clear this misconception.

But according to Creary, the Super Bowl boycott of celebrities is not going to hurt NFL lest the sponsors withdraw their ads. It’s more likely that they will use this as their advantage as well. Grab your Super Bow Tickets from Super Bow Deal

“I would be interested to see if sponsors, the big money corporations, decide they’re not going to pay millions of dollars of to run ads, or if advertisers are going to do what they did right after the Trump elections,” Creary said. “They ran pro-diversity ads as a counter narrative to Trump.”

She further said that it is quite amusing how more and more celebrities are involving themselves in this political activity and by doing so they are also pinpointing the social causes. However what truly matters is if an average American really do understands the actual cause of Kaepernick kneeling down during national anthem.

The recent Nike Ads covering Kaepernick and Rihanna and Schumer have given a nice backing to the quarterback and his politics. Without these I believe there would not be anyone who still be thinking about his protest 2 years ago.

Kaepernick have really been having a hard time in his career though Rihanna’s refusal to perform and Schumer’s boycott against Super Bowl has helped the forgotten quarterback get back in the headlines.

Furthermore, Schumer is even trying to convince other celebrities to protest against Super Bowl. In one of her social media posts she suggested to Maroon5 to also withdraw from performing at the Super Bowl like Rihanna did.
