Before & After
The Bridgeport Train Station is part of the Bridgeport Intermodal Transportation Center, which serves a total of 10,000 customers each day in the state’s largest city. It is a hub for bus, ferry, and rail connections to New Haven Line trains, as well as Amtrak intercity service to New York, Washington DC, and Boston.

Construction began in March 2015 and included a canopy extension on the westbound platform; a new canopy on the eastbound platform; a new windbreak system throughout with integrated station and wayfinding signage; new benches, LED lighting, touch-screen ticket machines and new trash / recycling receptacles.

Platform wayfinding signage was designed using classic MetroNorth symbols and colors directing riders to the station, street connection or ferry skybridge connection. Advertising billboards were designed to be integrated into the new glass windbreak system leaving the platform free and clear and eliminating additional panels to be installed in front of the windbreak system as it is at most stations; the station sign indicating the station location was also integrated into the glazing system.

Due to limited access to the water side of the station platforms two cranes on material barges were required to erect the steel for the canopy roofs and windbreak system. This construction was coordinated during overnight track outages to allow the station to remain in normal operation.
Openings in roof for catenary wires & towers
Due to the existing catenary wires at this station being installed at various angles and location along the platforms the new canopies were built around each wire and catenary tower as to not obstruct these wires but maintain overhead protection for commuters.
