ARGO
18" x 24" 4-color screen print on Madero Beach French Paper
Commissioned by The Academy and Gallery 1988's "For Your Consideration" poster series.
The Academy and Gallery1988 commissioned a small group of international artists including myself to create original screen prints inspired by this year’s nine Best Picture nominees. I am honored to be involved with this project. Check out my poster for Argo as well as all the other amazing artwork on the Oscars website!

This poster went through quite a few different iterations before arriving here. I had originally done a full-cast poster, but through the approval process I felt that this direction better depicted the overall concept of the film. The shredded paper motif was an important part of the movie, so I used that to signify the divides between all the countries involved. The negative space in-between the paper shreds bleeds into the Tehran skyline. The group of 6 diplomats are seen "escaping" from the Iran side to the US side via Canada, caught in the middle. Their path is made by a film strip. Visually, a departure from my normal work, but I'm really happy with how this turned out.
