Illustrations for Kvadrat

Working with Kvadrat has allowed us to experiment and develop our approach to illustration.
We aim to communicate Kvadrat's philosophy "the joy of colour" as well as the event or product. Sometimes we have something specific to work with such as a finished fabric and inspiration material. Occasionally we only have sketches or colours. And it seems more often than not, we have nothing except an event title and a "please do your magic" request. We are proud to say we have never let our client down. We hope you enjoy this set of illustrations.

Stockholm showroom and furniture fair
To keep Kvadrat's new 'North Tiles' secret until launch, we were asked to create an image without showing anything. We suggested a teaser image could be used to illustrate both the showroom and the furniture fair. Blending the colour palette of the 'North Tiles' which adorned the showroom created this colourful backdrop.
Kortrijk furniture fair
With the North Tiles revealed at the Stockholm showroom, they were promoted at the subsequent furniture fair at Kortrijk. We were asked to create a colourful teaser image for the fair, but no images of the stand were available. By using a technical drawing and blending the colours of the Stockholm showroom (the only existing North Tile installation at the time) we were able to create a colourful North Tile composition which conveys both the beauty and technical sides of the product
Christmas card
Our first Christmas card for Kvadrat. We were given an open brief, so we selected a number of their fabrics, sampled the colours and blended them together
Christmas card
With an open brief for Kvadrat's second Christmas we  created a 'layered Christmas weave'. The square in the middle was a happy accident for Kvadrat translates as square.
Orgatec furniture fair
Inspired by the shapes and the fabric colours at the Kvadrat stand at Orgatec.
Stockholm furniture fair
A variation on the Orgatec stand travelled to Stockholm where we were asked to create "the same but different please".
Kvadrat London
Based on a sketch by David Adjaye of the staircase and glass wall for Kvadrat's London showroom.
The colours were inspired by New Order's Blue Monday sleeve which was designed by Peter Saville who worked with Adjaye on the showroom.

Copenhagen cityscape
We were asked to create a colourful and secular image for Christmas 2009. Inspiration came from the colours of
Nyhavn, Copenhagen's Waterfront.
"Please illustrate art, architecture and inspiration".
We had to answer this brief carefully to avoid clichés and preaching to those who were being invited to an event at Kvadrat. This structural and dimensional image was thankfully free of implication and its beauty was much admired.
