CULTURAL INTROSPECTIVE

INTRODUCTION
The community, also known as civilization with a man, as a unit of material and living measure of all things, today swims in the shackles made of electronic media, demagogy, and the brutality of capitalism, which devours inexorably every cultural value, carefully established during centuries. The infinite quantity of information, which is useless, and available everywhere, leads us to the arms of errors and misconceptions, alienates us from others, as well as ourselves. We are manipulated in every possible way, not being aware of it. We forgot about ourselves; we see success only in the acquisition of the capital which we dispose of in a way that deviant system has imposed on us.
The well-known, infallible and always present critic of the society is art. At this moment, when civilization needs awareness, we recognize art as a healer of deep wounds, inflicted by the blade of capitalism.

DEMYSTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM
In order to make society aware in whole, it is necessary to start from the individual. With one superficial introspective, we will acknowledge that the problem is in each and every one of us. If we look around, we will notice that people visit museums during the rainy days in order to get away from the rainfall; they visit theaters only when the free tickets are distributed; books are read if we get them for our birthday, and above all, people don’t really know where the art galleries are on the map. All superficial cultural needs can be satisfied alongside the screens of our computers or TVs.
However, if culture and art were made accessible to everyone, by vertical distribution of content in one carefully selected point of urban macro-plan, and we engaged the visitors to participate in the creation of events, we would succeed in awakening their spiritual side, so they can remember real, immaterial values, and free themselves from these shackles. With education, observation, discussion, and provocation, the artists and visitors can create a unique spatial and sociological artifact, which promotes collective consciousness, both logically and globally, thus forming a platform for solving many other problems that society considers acute today.

SPATIAL ASPECT
The spatial form, used in the formation of the vertical structure, is actually the inherited structure of amphitheater and agora, interpreted through diverse morphological modifications, with parks as an integrative zone of each and every entirety.
Continuous content is reaching the visitors in many different ways. Exhibitions, art colonies, chamber concerts, libraries, photographic sections, and debates with artists or with other guests who are spontaneously present in the facility. Theater shows opened for the public, concerts, ballet shows, opera house, and museum leave the choice to the visitor to attend, or take part in a unique event.
The connection between the contents is achieved by spiral movement from the outer side of the twisted hyperboloid– the surface in a constructive role, and it is ceaseless from the level of the terrain to the top of the building, indicating the need for continuous cultural development.

LOCATION
The facility is geographically positioned in Belgrade, Serbia, on the ‘Veliko Ratno Ostrvo’. This island is located at the confluence of the Sava River into the Danube, and divides the three urban parts of Belgrade – Old Belgrade, New Belgrade and Third Belgrade (planned city development). Like many cities in Eastern Europe, Belgrade suffers a great cultural devastation.

GOAL
The main purpose of this project is to ensure, with vertical algometry, the presence of culture in a unique space, and also to make it accessible to all, founding the system of moral values, reviving, and encouraging the community to further develop.
