Design Challenge 1: FINAL

This information graphic was created using Adobe Spark. In order to convey the content of the design visually, I chose to base the layout around a simple image that displays the tools used in acupuncture. I found the image to be eye-catching and descriptive enough to draw the reader without distracting from the written content. I wanted the background image to reflect the content of the data in a way that truly emphasized the text and give the reader a way to orient themselves within the graphic. I used elements from my design toolkit, such as color and typestyling, to guide the eye’s of the reader to the most important components of the piece, similar to the navigation tactic of way-finding. The colors are consistent with the needles, allowing for a sense of uniformity throughout the graphic and making the overall image appear more cohesive. During the revision process, a majority of my feedback centered around the color of the text for greater visibility. I debated on the organization of this design, specifically with the bold text, but decided to focus more on the aesthetic than the flow of the content.  All of the data is derived from https://medshadow.org/fastfacts/acupuncture/. The purpose of this graphic is to provide readers with a better understanding of acupuncture and the research behind this practice to disprove some of the misconceptions about this topic.
