There are numerous studies that suggest that meditation can have numerous health benefits. For example, if you have suffered from depression, a treatment called cognitive therapy based on mindfulness will help you prevent another depression. In turn, there are studies that state that mindfulness meditation helps reduce stress, an anxiety disorder or addictive behavior.

Scientists and scholars who investigate the subject think that meditation works in such a way that it affects the part of the nervous system that controls the "fight-flight response" (involuntary action in which the body responds to stress by increasing the heart and respiratory rate and the amount of sweat). However, this is not evidence nowadays, so we can not definitively affirm this theory.
