The Banquet
The act of dining in China is not only to enjoy authentic cuisine, but more importantly, it is a channel for building relationships and showing respect. Within a Chinese dinner banquet setting, you are expected to behave in a civilized manner, pay attention to others’ dining habits and get to know all the members (sometimes, you might not know the people who are dining with you). Through observation and drinking, you make friends and establish interpersonal relationships. However, the dinner banquet can be very chaotic and overwhelming sometimes. Be aware not to get “drunk” before the dinner ends!
