Inspiration and Process

Essentially...Color and Design + Inspiration!
But what does that mean, here?

Applying an understanding of our human response to color is at the core of my art and design philosophy. ‘Environmental color’—how we as humans are affected by color and related shapes in our physical spaces, and ways of developing and communicating with color—has been prevalent in my own personal art work as well as in my professional color work, ongoing  since 1986, as an architectural color consultant. Inspiration specifically for my art work comes from many sources but also often begins with the materials themselves, as becoming immersed in a physical process often leads to image, form, and concept development.

Inspiration and process
When asked what kind of artist I am, the question always surprises me a bit. It is sometimes hard to answer concretely because I’m not tied to any one medium but enjoy myriad explorations, including recent work in line drawings of both semi-representational and highly imaginative subjects. Color is key in my work, and I've been able to incorporate my experience of over 25 years in doing commissioned wall finishes from glazing, to murals and Venetian plaster into my current work where I enjoy layering color in many ways throughout the various media I am involved with. Themes of landscape and land-forms, architecture, history/culture, natural and human phenomena, and interpretations of time-and-space are among the many "subjects" I become immersed in. For the most part, work is abstract. I enjoy working in series, so you will see among the gallery images some connection between either a few or many images done in a particular style or medium.
Originals or reproductions?
Some of my work is available for purchase as an original. Others are offered as custom Giclee prints which can done in many sizes to suit your budget and space requirements. Ask me about this!
