The MEGAfauna series considers the way we interact with the natural environment, often utilizing the arctic of Alaska as backdrop. By confronting mega-sized indigenous wildlife in local scenes, one must consider coexistence with these massive creatures. This has become a genuine concern as the climate rapidly changes in this unique part of the world.
After several years living atop the Arctic and in rural Alaska, I have become intimately familiar with the daily interactions with wildlife, exacerbated by the dramatic effects of global warming at northern latitudes. The scale of the animals in these paintings casts them as an undeniable, exaggerated representation of the environment, primed for our reevaluation.
