Theme: Drawing Machine
I researched the mechanics of cams and automata toys to build this playful machine. I wanted to put an equal amount of effort in the functioning/movement of the machine and the end results it creates. After fetching colored ink from the test tubes, the droppers create beautiful designs as the cam is rotated. Two motors of different velocities are used to observe the changes in the patterns formed by droplets of ink when they fall on the rotating paper. I wanted my work to be easily portable, hence I added wheels and a storage unit where the test tube stand could rest. Each painting created at the end is unique. The positioning of the test tubes, the inks they hold can all be changed - hence giving more freedom to the user to create a variety of designs.
