BARCELONA PAVILION EXTENSION
Located within the Barcelona Pavilion Park, the Barcelona Architecture and Design Library embellishes the historical pavilion by highlighting relationships within the existing context. The design preserves the integrity of the site, placing much of the interior below grade to emphasize the unobstructed view across the site, while a modern interpretation of Miesian architecture is reflected in the exterior. Shifts in the ground plane provide opportunities for natural daylighting and a dynamic relationship between interior and exterior, and landscape and architecture. The facility is primarily made up of exhibition space, a research area with book stacks, archives, and reference rooms, as well as a cafeteria and administration offices.
