What is Project Pinwheel?

Project Pinwheel is a social euntrepreneurship project bringing together fine and practical art. We aimed to create a giant moving sculpture vehicle from 100% found/recycled/donated materials, covered in pinwheels made by people from all around the world. The pinwheels were filled with hopes, dreams, and honesty which represent their creators. The sculpture acted as transportation, art exhibit and home for the Project Pinwheel team during its debut at Burning Man 2012.

The complete project measured 22'x12'x16' and included two stories, an interrior louge and a roof top astroturf garden.
To culminate the project, we made a documentary video:
How did we manage to fund and build Project Pinwheel?

The project began January 2012 when  Genevieve Marsh, Caitlyn Au, and Joshua Shiau united  to conceptualise and design what would soon become Project Pinwheel. Recognizing the potential of the idea, they decided to create a Kickstarter fundraising campaign and work with Rhode Island School of Design's (RISD) euntrepreneur program. Watching their Kickstarter exceed their $3800 goal gave them the resources and accountability to exicute the project.

After a spring of planning and designing in Providence, Rhode Island, they found a metal studio in Auburn, California to build the project for four weeks in August before trailering Project Pinwheel to Burning Man.
