SCREENPRINT ILLUSTRATION: INK AND ACRYLIC
The subject matter and the way in which media is applied and executed to express this subject matter, is the ficus of this project.

Subject matter:
The brief stated that the print had to incorporate either geometric or organic forms, including those in nature. Application or execution of the illustration was entirely dependant on my personal freedom to express the concept in the best possible way.

Conceptualisation:
This began with my personal choice of incorporating organic forms in the illustration as these are easily and and more freely expressed sensually.
A foundation concept derived from wanting to express an abstract and complimentary contrast. Life and death.

Poppies in all tradition symbolise the deaths of those during the war. The connection was made with that of the locust forms which bring "death" to crops. That of the falling leaves as silhouettes signify dying, but change in season-preparing for new life.

Application and colour rendering  of the illustration was executed in ink and blowing the ink while wet to create the forms and in contrast, bring them to life.
