Beach Centerpiece Sculptures - May 2018

As a perfect start to my summer, Amy Greenwald and her family commissioned me with this project of creating abstract sculptures out of trash picked off the beaches of Rhode Island. The coral and crustacean inspired sculptures served as centerpieces for Miss Carmen Greenwald's Bat Mitzvah. With the help of Amy, her daughters, (Carmen and Ella) as well as their friends; together we created a total of 17 centerpieces including the large floor sculptures at the end. The materials proved to surprise and challenge me. As a result, they became more personal than intended; with organic nature forms in mind while constructing with man made objects that go against nature itself.
This dark green and clear white one was the first one I made. In all of the sculptures the only materials that did not come from the beach is the recycled yarn that wraps the pieces together.
