The Goal: Every year Northeastern University makes dramatic strides across a broad range of priorities: global experiential education, student achievement, academic innovation, faculty strength, use-inspired research, and alumni engagement. This institutional accomplishments website provides the tangible indicators of Northeastern's continuing impact and advancement.
The Challenge Faced: In previous years, institutional accomplishments website design has been approached as blank canvas with no consistency in design or content organization from year to year. I was tasked to design a scalable website that can be used as a template in future years to cut down resources used every year to produce the site.
The Road Taken: I lead the design team through design thinking approach starting with research developing understanding of users and problems of the websites from previous years along with understanding business objectives. After looking at the user experience of the product as a whole, the design team was guided through rounds of potential design solutions. The team used Invision as a prototyping tool to test the design solutions. Once the design solution was agreed on, I worked closely with developers to ensure that the solution is materialized and works for users and business stakeholders.
The Destination: The team produced institutional accomplishments website that guides users through the achievements of the Northeastern University. The websites groups achievements across broad range of priorities in three simple story lines: experiential learning, research and communities empowered. With the use of various multimedia and micro interactions the users are presented with the comprehensive view of Northeastern's continuing impact and advancement. In addition, the website allows users to download the data sheet with major measures of momentum to aid users getting the printable pdf from the website without contacting administrative assistance to access the information.
