Problems With Vertical Typesetting

All the letters have the same optical width so they can be aligned vertically; Letters have horizontal ascenders and descenders just for special glyphs; glyphs are optically balanced in the vertical direction instead of horizontal direction; glyphs are designed to be wide and flat to be accommodated in a smaller area.
