An artist's book that was created in a Design Foundations class, taught by Emma Hogarth that reflects on the way world wide web changes culture of information-gathering and takes its inspiration from the juxtaposition of a self-generating and temporary search engine and an archival and permanent format of book.
The project is designed as a traditional alphabet book that uses words and images generated in the google search engine to represent each letter of english alphabet.
The book is bound by hand and is extremely tangible and physical to contrast the nature of its content, originating in the virtual realm.
The letters are printed on a Vandercook letterpress, using woodtype and oil-based ink, a traditional method of printing, stemming back to the origins of book-making and type-setting.
The images and words representing the results of google search are produced using wintergreen-oil transfer technique.
The content of the book is temporary and specific to the timeframe and location of the search.
However, the results of the ubiquotous search are documented in teh format of a book: an object designed to be archival and lasting.
