This project was based purely on special interest and was completed during my final (Btech) year in Surface Design. The Topic of the Project is : Using Illumination and Morphology to create effective lighting and produce indirect designs. This making reference to lights and forms of nature to design lights that create translucent patterns through shadow, for use on dull surface and public spaces.
Product 1: Metamorphose Light Box- created to display the evolution (metamorphosis) of the Loquat Tree in five stages. Sound- to- light was added to the bottom half of the box where light reacts to sound. This can be applied to feature walls, gardens and where lots of sound is present.
Product 2: Metamorphosis Skirting- this was produced to generate shadow play onto the floor. With Illumination, Metamorphosis and Morphology as key concepts.Possible applications for the Metamorphosis Skirting can be applied to stairways, kitchen counter top, passages, bedrooms, bathrooms, cornices,skirting and other areas that desires light. This is a energy saving light that works on low temperature.
Product 3: Kids Interactive Light - designed to please children between the ages of 4- 8 years of age where adults and children can interact. A four- year- old observed the Loquat Plant and drew shapes that had come into sight. The drawing was then etched into the material and light colour was chosen by the child and once exposed to light, the drawing illuminated. Cut-outs were added to the light as an accessory to brighten up the product and help children link colour to shape.
Product 4: Meta-Lamp- Lamp for children, cut-outs block light and create shadow patterns within a room.
Product 5: White Opal Candle Holder- follow theme of previous designs to set a mood using natural Light. The box above the tealight holder is used to produce shadow patterns in an area.
Product 6: Candle Holder and Box- using natural Light. The tealight holder can be used on its own or placed in the box for aesthetics and prevention of wind entering box.
Product Logo: Luminance- stands for Morphology focusing on structure and forms of different organisms and Illumination looking at decorative lighting.
