Urdu Culture Now at Godrej India Culture Lab

Urdu Culture Now is a part of a fellowship I did at Godrej India Culture Lab during May 2018 called Leadership Programme.

The India Culture Lab is head by Parmesh Shahani.

Godrej India Culture Lab Leadership Programme, aims at giving Humanities students a deep dive into the cultural scene in Mumbai through a range of cultural experiences and talks with domain experts to give us the skills to become future cultural innovators, through an intense month-long internship.

We were 7 Leadership fellows at the Godrej India Culture Lab who curated this event to explore the current state of Urdu culture and how it is being revived.

I, with the other fellows, designed the invitations, GIFs, announcement creatives and played a major role in exhibition production, design and artist management.

The evening included a Panel Discussion on 'Urdu Revival Through the Internet' featuring lyricist and poet Hussain Haidry, artist Zeenat Kulavoor and activist and Executive Editor of The Wire Urdu, Mahtab Alam. It was moderated by writer and journalist, Annie Zaidi.  This was followed by a Quissebaazi performance by actor and storyteller, Danish Husain and a music performance by Winit Tikoo.
In addition to this, we also had multiple art exhibitions, showcasing the works of Zeenat Kulavoor (Khala Kehti Thi) and Nasheet Shadani (Bollywood Without Urdu) as well as a Mehfil Khana with specially curated playlists. 

This event, like all other Culture Lab events, was free and open to all.
